"Growing Creatively with STEAM" - Spring 2017 Online Course through NDSU

06 Feb 2017 1:26 PM | Anonymous

“Growing Creatively with STEAM” is the theme for the NDSU spring semester online course being offered by Project Food, Land & People.  The course will begin with an introduction on Wednesday, February 15th from 4-6 pm (more offerings as needed).  Educators will follow a link with a laptop or other camera enabled computer, where they will see/hear the class facilitators and other class participants on the screen.  Educators will have access to a wide variety of grade level designed lessons from which they will choose three (3) to present in their classrooms or to students, with completion by May 10th.

STEAM is an educational approach to learning that uses Science, Technology, Engineering, the Arts and Mathematics as access points for guiding student inquiry, dialogue, and critical thinking. The end results are students who take thoughtful risks, engage in experiential learning, persist in problem-solving, embrace collaboration, and work through the creative process. These are the innovators, educators, leaders, and learners of the 21st century!

Food, Land & People lessons provide hands-on, critical thinking activities, measurable objectives and references that distinguish them from among materials used to teach about food, natural resources, cultures and consumers.  This course will provide you with ideas and resources to grow your class creatively!

The lessons include alignments to the standards for Next Generation Science, National Family and Consumer Science plus English and Language Arts.  For a brief description of some of the lessons you have to choose from visit:  http://www.foodlandpeople.org/resources/resources-for-learning/brief-descriptions/  or http://www.agclassroom.org/teacher/matrix/
